How the hourly to salary calculator works
Convert an hourly rate and your paid work schedule into annual and average monthly gross pay.
Annual gross = hourly rate × paid hours per week × paid weeks per year. Average monthly gross = annual gross ÷ 12.
Read our calculation methodology and limitations.
Example
At $25 an hour, 40 paid hours a week and 50 paid weeks, annual gross is $50,000 and average monthly gross is $4,166.67.
What affects the result
- Use paid weeks rather than automatically assuming 52 when leave is unpaid.
- This straight-time conversion does not determine overtime eligibility.
- Gross pay is before tax, benefits and other deductions.
Frequently asked questions
Does monthly mean four weeks?
No. Annual pay divided by twelve averages the year. Four weeks per month only accounts for 48 weeks.
Should I include unpaid vacation?
Reduce paid weeks for unpaid time. Paid leave can remain in paid weeks.
Does this include overtime?
This conversion uses the entered hourly rate uniformly. Use the monthly-income or paycheck worksheet to separate regular and overtime earnings.
